A Chaotic Balance (On Being Human)

We will shed many skins in this lifetime if we really lean in and embrace the messy chaos of it all. And just like the snake, we will emerge clearer each time, more colorful – brighter. In the end, our true self isn’t something to be found, only something to be revealed. It is not so much a seeking of the light that we must engage in then, but a “simple” remembering of the spark of light we inherently are.

Will It Feel Like This Forever? (On Embracing the Dark)

We’re the kind of people who like to hear about what’s hard, what’s stupid, what’s annoying and sucks (there’s a lot). We want to scream and then cry and then laugh and then dance around on unicorn stick horses wearing silly hats. You don’t have to pretend here. We are here for the humaning. Light and dark have been estranged for a long time. If we can learn to marry the two, weaving them together like a beautiful tapestry individually and collectively…I think that we can certainly hope for a brand-new kind of future

Enlightened…Apparently? (What is Embodied Spirituality)

So, what follows “enlightenment,” or this oneness with the light? Embodiment. Embody means: “to put into a body.” We bring the light of the spirit back down into the human form. And we begin the messy but rewarding work of humaning. Spirituality is often presented as a path of the mind and spirit – the masculine energy that transcends the body – where the goal is to leave the body to go up into the sky. But we often forget about the path of the heart and soul – the feminine energy that lives within the body – where the goal is to live your spirituality right here, in this body, on this Earth. But of course, it’s both. Transcend to touch the light, descend to re-enter the body.

An Empowering Empathy

2020 is definitely a year of changes, and it can be about starting over in a fresh new way. This can be an exciting time that feels good with the promise of a new world on the horizon. We can learn to break the cycle of disconnection, destruction, and division that tears at our personal and worldly relationships by bypassing 'otherness' and tapping into an empowering empathy!

One Healed Relationship at a Time

My husband and I exist in very different experiences of the world as a police officer and a personal growth coach. Truly we don't always see eye to eye as our world experiences have shaped us so differently. One day a couple months ago, exhausted after a fight and stuck at an impasse, we came up with a manifesto of sorts and we both signed it - here are our 7 Values for Building a Better Relationship. It strikes me now how this is simply good advice for all of us trying to make our way through the world.

Peace and Ease, Baby.

I’m going to bring you in on a little secret: peace and ease are NOT dependent on your external circumstances. You can change the container you're in and temporarily feel better on the inside; but if your sense of peace and ease is based entirely on external circumstances, you will forever be stuck in the pursuit of happiness. And if you're tired of the chase...then it's time to learn to embody a sense of peace and ease that you can carry with you no matter what life throws at you.

One Sacred Act of Rebellion

As we continue to plod our way through this challenging time, perhaps you're coming to the realization that things will never be exactly the same. I, for one, am ecstatic. A crisis is a call to change and there IS a big change long overdue in our world and in our selves. Here's One Sacred Act of Rebellion you can take right now to begin to re-balance your soul and literally change the world. I'm serious.

Making Peace with the Present

When you feel powerless to change what is happening, it can be helpful to remember the idea that: it's not always about changing your life, sometimes it's about changing the way you experience your life. Here's to making peace with the present moment and letting the process shake you back alive.

Finding Beauty in Strangeness

I want to keep sharing the tools, mindsets, and practices that can help you during what might feel like a very strange or challenging time. For today...When the big picture of what's going on in the world becomes overwhelming, practice zooming in to one singular moment of beauty.
